To all the British Parents – Congratulations on Winning the Ashes! (Cricket)

First Semester Reports

The First Semester concluded on the 14th January. The teachers have been working since this date on completing their assessments and writing reports. The reports are scheduled to be distributed to families via Upper School Students at the end of the month. I am looking forward to reading the reports and making my own comments on each student’s progress throughout the First Semester. It is our policy that no parent should be unpleasantly surprised by anything in your child’s report.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have concerns in this respect.

Dr. Martin Luther King Week

I would like to thank our Diversity Coordinator Ms. Lia Stallworth for organizing the MLK Week at ISI this year. We received some really thoughtful feedback from parents, students and faculty. Ms Stallworth will be organizing a lunchtime meeting to be chaired by the Diversity Club where students will have not only the opportunity to reflect on the activities and celebration but also to look forward to how we as a community of learners and thinkers feel is the best way to recognize Dr Martin Luther King and his work in the future. We also hope to have a special day for our Grade 6-8 students where we will focus on the topic of diversity.

MYP Authorization

The IB MYP Regional Manager for the Americas contacted us in late December to let us know that based on the visiting team’s authorization visit report and the documentation that our faculty had created he was writing to the IB Headquarters in Switzerland to recommend that we receive authorization. We are pleased with this outcome, but continue to wait for the official notification from Geneva.

ISI’s Got Talent!

I would like to thank Ms. Keles for all her time and effort in organizing the ISI’s Got Talent evening. It was fantastic to see our students (and faculty members!) across both the Upper and Lower Schools performing. It was a great demonstration of how artistically and creatively talented our students are in addition to their great achievements in academics and athletics.

ISI High School Scholarships

Over the next month I will be busy interviewing the 31 Grade 8 Students who have applied for ISI High School Scholarships. All the applicants are outstanding candidates and I am sure to be in for a very rewarding but also stressful time making my recommendations for scholarships!

Grade 12 Mocks

Well done to our Seniors on not only surviving their mocks but also performing to the best of their abilities. Mr. Chabraja will be surveying both students and teachers so that we can plan for improving the Mocks next year. The Seniors have had a very busy First Semester focusing not only on their IB Diploma Studies but also on their College Application Process, which can be very time-consuming and daunting. I would like to thank Mrs. Bosin and all the Faculty who assisted by writing letters of recommendation for our students. Already we have some excellent College acceptances for the next academic year.

College News

The 10th Graders have been asked to sign on to their Family Connection/Naviance site so they can begin their first assignment.  The students have been asked to complete the Learning Style Inventory, Personality Type Inventory and their Career Interest Profiler.  These inventories are insightful for the student, parents and counselors as we begin the pathway to college.

The 11th Graders are busily working on their resumes.  The student/parent/counselor meetings are going well.  Parents have hopefully received their Parents’ College Statement to complete and return to Mrs. Bosin as soon as possible.  Appointments are scheduled as soon as the document is received.

The 12th Graders have sent their applications and are now applying for scholarships, helping their parents with the FAFSA and other financial aid forms and waiting for their decisions.  The 34 students of the Class of 2011 have applied to 104 different colleges and universities in the United States.  Congratulations for a job well done!
